National Carers Week

by | Oct 16, 2019 | Australia

This week (13th – 19th October) marks National Carers Week across Australia. It’s about recognising and celebrating the outstanding contribution Australia’s 2.7 million unpaid carers make to our nation.

There are many family and friend carers in Australia who provide 36 million hours of care and support every week to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, etc. The replacement value of that unpaid care could be $1.1 billion per week.

We are recognising the incredible work a lot of the host families we work with do every day to support and care for the people in their lives that need it the most. We know of some amazing families that work tirelessly to give their children and grown up children the best care in the world. We want nothing but the best for them and those they care for. So, it’s important to us to recognise them.

Anyone can become a carer and this week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the diversity amongst carers and the roles they fulfil every day.
